Hospital Visit

The beginning of February was rough for us.  Actually, I have never been so scared in my life.  On a Monday Wyatt was diagnosed with strep throat and we had several follow up phone calls with our pediatrician regarding fever and swollen eye. Wednesday morning we took him to a local Cook Children's ER where they sent us to Cook Children's downtown FW stating that if we did not treat Wyatt timely, he had a risk for meningitis.  At that point, I almost passed out and had to lay down while we waited for discharge.  After a very LONG seven hours in the downtown FW waiting room, blood tests and a CT scan confirmed he had orbital cellulitis - a bacterial infection behind the eye.  They carefully monitored blood cultures and confirmed the infection had not spread to blood, etc. and an ophthalmologist confirmed no vision impairment. Praise the Lord!  We spent three nights, three days on an isolation floor of Cook Children's hospital with strong IV meds.  Unfortunately, the illness did not end there as we all picked up a terrible stomach virus from the hospital.  We are very grateful to the doctors and nurses at Cook Children's hospital and our family and friends for the prayers and support.  I personally could not have made it through that week without my faith and I thank the Lord daily for our health.  A big thank you to Buck's mom who jumped in the car and drove hundreds of miles to help us without us even asking, for taking me to the urgent care because Buck and I were both very sick at the same time, for staying with us at the hospital, etc.  We are forever grateful and still feel bad she and Grandpa got sick!  A big thank you to my parents as well for helping us keep Brock in a normal routine.
At ER on Wednesday- I know it is blurry, but we were obviously not focused on photos.  We do want you to see how tough this kid is- he is still SMILING through all of the pain.

Wednesday evening admitted to hospital and IV started.

Wednesday evening

Thursday at noon- His eye was starting to look better.
Brock was able to visit Wyatt Thursday evening; he wasn't sure what to think at first, but finally was more comfortable with the situation.  Grandma took Brock downstairs to make Wyatt a friend at the Build a Bear workshop.
Brock "washing" the dragon.

Saturday morning
Sunday we were back at the park looking for rolly pollies.  I couldn't help but cry happy tears after the week we just had.

Brock missed his brother while he was in the hospital!
